Daily Prompt – Parentified – 10 years old

It happened all at once.

I woke up that morning just the weirdo kid that nobody liked. I got ready. We went into town without my dad. Mom said he was getting bad again.

We took the baby to get pictures taken at K-mart. It used to be a pretty big deal. We stopped for jamocha shakes before driving home.

Dad ended his life while we were gone.

It was over. I never once felt like a child again after that.

Mom had to make money. My brother was a boy so he could do what he wanted. There was a toddler to raise, and we found out that Mom was pregnant again that same week.

Somebody had to be with the babies.

    A father’s presence is essential for children. All your dreams and love are connected to your father. I can imagine what was going through your mind at that time. May God not let anyone go through such a difficult time.
