Daily Prompt 12.10.25
“What is something others do that sparks your admiration?”
Look for the Helpers
The single trait that will always elicit my respect and admiration is the urge to help.
When things in life go awry, there are a lot of different responses. I’ve found myself dumbfounded time and time again at how many people will choose to capitalize on a crisis, or would choose to make a tragedy even more punishing.
There are plenty of people who turn a blind eye, or just keep walking past, and I get that. I really do. We are all absolutely overtaxed, and the powers that be keep it that way. Keeping your head down can be a matter of survival. I’ve had to keep my head down and just keep stepping more times than I’d like to count.
That’s what makes the helpers remarkable.
“My mom used to say, when the news is scary, look for the helpers.”–Mr Rogers
As we live in a time of global tensions and uncertainty, or raising costs and diminishing resources, it would be natural for us each to fend for ourselves, and those we love, and stop there.
Some people just can’t.
Some people see human pain and immediately want to make it less, and start working toward that end without even realizing it. There are so many people who are barely scraping by, but don’t think twice before inviting someone who has less. There are multitudes of people who are barely keeping it together, and they still prioritize giving- time, effort, presence, because that connection is the only point to being here.
So, I stand in appreciation of the helpers of all sorts, who see something that could be better, and choose that.

What do you think?
