Survivor Literacy
I’ve really struggled, since the inception of this blog, to find an adequate umbrella title. I didn’t want it to be disjointed, or all over the place. I wanted to clearly document the medical journey of an outcast. That alone, is an overwhelmingly large topic.
But it’s not alone. My medical journey is tied to my identity, and housing, and trauma, and absolutely everything.
Sometimes, even when it’s too big, it still won’t make sense without the even bigger picture. Absolutely everything I know is shaped through my lens as a trauma survivor. All of the opportunities in my life come back to my bastard beginning. My invisibility as a Zebra mirrors my invisibility as a neurodivergent. Oppression on the personal level is a microcosm of the abuses in the macrocosm. Theory is lived.
So, it’s taken years, and several site evolutions for me to stumble into what finally feels like a focused wide lense, viewing the panorama while still making out individual trees.
Survivor Literacy covers trauma, medicalization, oppression, and absolutely all of it. Here I get to combine social theory with lived experience and my neurodivergence to find patterns and problem solve.
I’m so grateful to have you here with me.
Happy Healing
